What's included
Bracing and cabling are structural support systems for trees with weak unions, co-dominant stems, or storm-cracked limbs that are otherwise healthy and valuable. Cables — high-strength steel or dynamic synthetic — are installed high in the canopy to limit how far stems can move apart in wind. Brace rods are threaded steel installed through weak unions or splits lower in the tree, holding the wood together directly.
Done right, a support system is invisible from the ground and adds decades to a tree's safe life. Done wrong — wrong hardware, wrong height, girdling installations — it creates a false sense of security. Every Diversified installation follows industry standards for placement, hardware sizing, and tensioning, and comes with an inspection schedule.
Our process
We evaluate the union or defect, the load above it, the target below it, and whether support is genuinely the right answer.
Some trees warrant a cable; some need weight-reduction pruning instead; some are past saving. We tell you which — plainly.
Hardware sized to the stems, installed at the correct height (typically two-thirds of the way from defect to canopy top), tensioned correctly.
Support systems are checked, not forgotten — we recommend re-inspection every 2–3 years and after major storms.
What to expect
Most installations take a half day and are usually paired with weight-reduction pruning of the supported limbs — the cable limits movement, the pruning reduces the load it has to manage. From the street you'll see nothing; the hardware sits high in the canopy, and the tree simply keeps being the tree it was.

Properly installed hardware causes minimal, contained wounding that healthy trees compartmentalize. What hurts trees is girdling wraps and undersized hardware from bargain installs — which we replace regularly.
Steel systems commonly serve 10+ years between hardware refreshes; dynamic systems have manufacturer-rated lifespans. Either way the system should be inspected every 2–3 years and after major wind events.
No honest arborist guarantees a tree. Support dramatically reduces the risk of union failure; it doesn’t make a tree immortal. If a tree is too far gone, we’ll tell you removal is the safer spend.
Value, structure, and target. A high-value tree with one correctable defect and a manageable target below it is a support candidate. Extensive decay, multiple failing unions, or a bedroom underneath changes the math.
